There is a "way" for chemical safety

Towards the end of the year, as the chief engineer of Sinochem Shenyang Chemical Research Institute, Cheng Chunsheng is busy with several major projects: the construction of the Key Laboratory of Hazardous Chemical Safety Risk Early Warning and Intelligent Control Technology of the Ministry of Emergency Management, the construction of the China Sinochem Safety Technology Innovation Center, and the leading formulation of national standards for chemical safety...... Although these projects sound a little obscure, they are closely related to the food, clothing, housing and transportation of ordinary people.

In 1979, Cheng Chunsheng, who had outstanding chemistry achievements, was promoted to Sun Yat-sen University, which opened her inseparable fate with chemical engineering. At that time, China's chemical industry was still relatively backward. Taking pesticides as an example, most important pesticides rely on imported or imitated foreign processes for production, with low efficiency and many hidden dangers.

How to close the gap? In order to find out more safe and environmentally friendly chemical process technology paths, Cheng Chunsheng was busy "white and black": during the day, he soaked in the laboratory to do experiments, record data, and find problems; In the library at night, since the founding of the American Chemical Abstract in 1907, he has been combing through English publications and digging for clues to technical routes...... A large number of important product process and technical problems have been overcome.

However, the safety issue of chemical production has always haunted Cheng Chunsheng's mind. In 2005, Cheng Chunsheng decided to get involved in the field of chemical reaction risk research and establish a reaction risk research platform with China's independent intellectual property rights.

The hard work pays off. Since 2017, the chemical reaction safety risk assessment technology developed by Cheng Chunsheng has been promoted and applied in the national fine chemical industry, and the product yield, "three wastes" emissions, and injury rate of one million working hours of related enterprises have reached the international advanced level.
